So there is this new Survey out there that says, gone are the days when Android was the platform for the underdogs. Its mainstream now.
The latest survey from Quantcast published afew days ago on Engadget is news we have been waiting for. Yes Android is here for good. It is eating away into the proprietary platforms of RIM and Apple. At about 25% of the market and growing feverishly, its only a matter of time before, Android rules the roost. Some say it could be #1 as early as 2011. Google said some time ago, more than 200K Android phones been activated every day. No mean feat for a platform that is the newest kid on the block (Android joined the mobile bandwagon since fall of 2008).
Now what is so cool about Android?
Well, Everything. From the name, to their Green Geeky mascot, to the Freedom it allows its developers, to the very cool features and apps it comes up with every day. I have a difficult time understanding why anyone on a level head would want to be tied to the proprietary mobiles platforms out there? As a mobile user, I dont want to be limited to listen to my music only in one specific format. I dont want to be told by a Fruit logo-ed company (Apple anyone?) to have to bind myself to the whims and fancies of their app store policies and what they deem is right or wrong. And by the way, if they are mocking others for being 'Dont be Evil', they need to look at themselves. Their own OS and mobile platform has borrowed innovations from several open-standards.
Anyway for now, I'm very pleased that Android is thriving. Mainly because it is based on Linux--my favorite operating platform. Keep it up Android!
Do I need to mention, I'm loving my new Android mobile phone?
