NASA released the report on particulate matter content in the atmosphere for the whole world few days ago. It can be seen here on this page .
It shows that the Asian and African regions are the most polluted with particulate matter. Some are dangerously high and are cited as the cause of millions of premature deaths world over annually. I think this has been due for a long time to have a report like this. An eye opener for many in the developing world. In the race to achieve Economic Development and prosperity many Asian countries are neglecting their footprint on the Environment. Rampant deforestation, Random Industrialization and Excessive Population are causing an unimaginable stress on the Environment. I think those regions in the Red must take a look at how they want to develop. Fast and short prosperity or Long and sustainable?
In my opinion, the deadly mix of uncontrolled population and deforestation causes a cascading effect on the natural resources of a country and after a point the resulting pollution problem becomes out of hand. The best way to tackle this in my opinion is through Education. Education to people about using Renewable resources more than fossil resources. Education to children to develop healthy habits of Recycling. It applies to every one too.
Also note that a bulk of the Natural resources lost from the developing world ends up in the developed parts. So the developed world is indirectly responsible for the depletion of Natural resources in the developing world. These two ends of the spectrum need to meet in the middle. Otherwise more scary reports are on the way.
This is our only livable home. Please recycle as much as you can.
Again here is the report . See for yourself.
